A veneer is a layer of porcelain or composite resin placed over a tooth to improve aesthetics or to protect the tooth’s surface. There are two types of veneers; a full veneer crown which will cover all five surfaces of the tooth or a laminate veneer which is a thin layer that covers only the surface of the tooth.
A porcelain veneer can be fabricated by a lab and then later bonded to the tooth using a cement. A composite veneer may be directly placed on the tooth or indirectly fabricated and then bonded to the tooth.
